'Wait and see': Eddie Howe now teases foray into January transfer market following Tino Livramento injury

Eddie Howe was hit with another huge injury concern at the weekend as Tino Livramento limped off against Bournemouth.

The England full-back has only just returned from injury and now looks set for another spell on the sidelines, having picked up a hamstring issue in the Titanic FA Cup clash on Saturday.

Fabian Schar picked up a bad injury in midweek as well, meaning that just as Howe was starting to get options back, two have been taken away.

As confident as Eddie Howe seems that Dan Burn is nearing a return, we have to remember that he's recovering from a punctured lung, and that's going to take some time to fully repair, so we'd not be surprised to see him struggling for a good while after he's back.

Eddie Howe hasn't ruled out dipping into the transfer market this month for defensive cover

The question asked of Eddie Howe this morning in his pre-match presser was whether Tino's injury would force Newcastle into the transfer market, but Howe is still unsure.

"We will wait and see. We need to know the full extent of the injury and other injuries and timescales and that will impact the transfer window.

"He will be having a scan today to understand the extent of the damage on his hamstring."

We can't see how Newcastle can think they don't need at least one more defender through the door this month

As we've said in previous articles, we can't see how Newcastle can feel confident not bringing in more defensive cover this month, even if it's just a loan move to get us through the back end of the season.

Even our fit players aren't fully fit. Most are on the comeback trail after injury layoffs, Lewis Miley isn't even a defender and Malick Thiaw is being run into the ground.

We need cover in one way or another. There is talk that Newcastle are eyeing Giorgio Scalvini again, and if that's the case, we say go and get him.
