Don Hutchison gets excited over Newcastle United transfer rumour for 'Rolls-Royce' defender with huge caveat
After Tino Livramento limped off the pitch during Newcastle United's win over Bournemouth on Saturday, it became clear to a lot of fans that the Magpies may need to delve into the transfer market this month.
Newcastle were already struggling for numbers at the back, and even those players who are fit are at a huge risk of further injury.
The likes of Lewis Hall, Kieran Trippier, and Sven Botman are only just coming back from layoffs, and their time needs to be managed, while Malick Thiaw is being run into the ground and could probably do with being rotated out for a game or two.
Jamaal Lacelles is nowhere to be seen, and Dan Burn is still a couple of weeks away from returning, and we're still waiting for confirmation on how long Fabian Schar will be missing.
Newcastle still seem keen not to spend money to cover for injuries
The club seems adamant they'll not be spending this month to cover for injured players, but it's becoming a necessity more than a request.
Newcastle are reportedly once again looking at Italian centre-back Giorgio Scalvini, who they were linked with a lot over the summer.
The 22-year-old Atalanta star had a lot of fans excited when we were linked with him a few months ago, and one Newcastle fan, former Sunderland player Don Hutchison, seems very keen on the idea.
Don Hutchison is aware of one issue with Scalvini
Reposting the story by Transfer News Live, Hutchison added that Scalvini is a 'Rolls-Royce' defender, but he did have a huge concern.
"I been commenting on Italian football for years now. G Scalvini is Rolls-Royce!!! If he can stay fit tho……"
A defender with a shaky injury record hardly seems like the ideal candidate, given that the whole reason we need a defender is due to fitness issues, but at the same time, Scalvini is a quality player and could be worth the risk. At a reported £35 million, though, it is a big, big risk.
