Newcastle United made a couple of first-team signings in the summer, Will Osula who was regarded as a player for the future and free-agent Lloyd Kelly arrived from Bournemouth.
This was the second time that Eddie Howe had signed Lloyd Kelly after being the one to bring the versatile defender to the Cherries.
Kelly arrived with a lot of promise and on eye-watering wages believed to be around £150,000 per week according to Capology.
We initially saw the promise in the 26-year-old after racking up a nice assist in his third outing in the game against Tottenham, but since then his appearances have been met mostly with criticism.
Dan Burn has solidified his spot at left-centre-back and Lewis Hall has made left-back his own. We have Sven Botman back from injury with Jamaal Lascelles on the way back too, so Kelly's spot looks firmly rooted to the bench.
Today, a report from Turkish outlet Haber Global has claimed that Fenerbahce have made a £10 million bid for the defender and talks are underway.
While Newcastle are looking to recruit defenders, it would be strange if they were to let one go, but from a financial perspective, this deal makes so much sense.
We're not sure, at this stage, how legitimate this story is, but if it is, getting a £10 million payday on a player we signed on a free just six months ago, especially one on such astronomical wages, makes too much sense to pass up.
If Kelly was knocking on the door for a first-team place, we'd maybe think twice, but in truth he has been pretty awful overall this season.
We have our fingers crossed that there's truth to this story, and the club does the deal. It could be massive in terms of PSR and opening up headroom on the wage bill.
