Newcastle United could be about to miss out on the opportunity to sign one of the hottest young English talents in the Premier League.

The Magpies are one of many clubs keeping tabs on Southampton's promising youngster Tyler Dibling who has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water this season.

Southampton obviously do not want to lose one of their stars in January while trying to fend off the threat of relegation - although many would say that ship has sailed.

Dibling picked up an ankle injury earlier this month and isn't expected to be back in action before the end of the transfer window, but Tottenham are in such dire straits right now that they are still contemplating a move.

Tottenham are desperate for new players with their injury list looking as bad as ours last season

The Boot Room reports that Spurs will look to loan Dibling from Southampton for the remainder of the season with an obligation to buy in the summer with Saints valuing Dibling at £50 million.

It would be a risk given his current injury status, especially as there just won't be any room for him in the Spurs treatment room with Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, Timo Werner, Djed Spence and Wilson Odobert all out injured.

However, it would be a good way for Spurs to get a jump on other clubs, but you'd imagine if Southampton hinted that they'd be open to such a deal, other clubs would offer similar terms too.

Newcastle will no doubt be watching closely to see if Southampton are willing to deal

Newcastle have been huge admirers of Tyler Dibling since he came to the North East and netted a hat-trick against the Under 21s.

Like Spurs, Newcastle don't have the money to do any business this month, but surely, if a loan with an obligation to buy is a genuine option this month, Newcastle would throw their hat into the ring for that and try and offer better terms than Spurs.

At the end of the day, Southampton must know that their days in the Premier League are numbered, and they will lose Dibling in the summer, so why not get a few quid in now in terms of a loan fee and then a big lump in the summer that will help them bounce back the following season?
