Newcastle United put in a solid display on Wednesday night as they beat Brentford 3-1 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
it was a strong showing by the Magpies. Not their most dominant or most eye-catching, although there were definitely moments of sheer brilliance.
Eddie Howe sent out his charges to do a job and that's exactly what they did and the reward for their efforts is now a two-legged tie against Arsenal.
There were a few standout performers for Newcastle in midweek with Sandro Tonali an obvious pick after his two goals. Bruno Guimaraes was also in fine fettle and defender Fabian Schar got himself on the scoresheet.
Football stats site WhoScored? has created their Team of the Round which includes the highest-scoring player for each position from each of the four games played this week.
Newcastle United have three players represented in the side. Sandro Tonali obviously makes the cut after scoring two goals and putting in a solid all-round performance. WhoScored? gave him a score of 8.7.
Fabian Schar, Newcastle's other goal scorer will have been given a points bump for finding the net and his score of 7.3 was enough to see him take a centre-back spot.
Memories of the game are fading (it was more than 24 hours ago, give me a break), but I don't recall Anthony Gordon doing much of great note during the game, but he does almost always have a solid outing so it's a bit of a surprise, but also not too much that he got a score of 7.6 and made it into the Team of the Round.
Tottenham dominated the team with four players followed by Newcastle's three. Liverpool had two players in there while Arsenal and Crystal Palace had a player a piece.
It's good to see our lads being recognised in such lists again. It really is starting to feel like we're turning a corner.
