Newcastle United made light work of Brentford at St James' Park on Wednesday night, emerging with a 3-1 victory spearheaded by Sandro Tonali.

As often seems to be the case lately, Newcastle should have had more goals to show for their efforts, but the three they did get certainly got the job done. Only an injury-time blip which saw Yoane Wissa bag a consolation goal spoiled the mood.

Newcastle now await their fate with the semi-final draw taking place after Tottenham take on Manchester United tonight with Arsenal and Liverpool already in the draw alongside Newcastle.

That means there'll be no easy route to the final for the Magpies with every team left in the competition a tricky opponent to face over two legs.

Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar will miss the first leg through suspension

Unfortunately, Newcastle will have to take on the first leg without Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes, both of whom picked up yellow cards last night and will now miss the first leg of the semi-final.

Bruno took to social media last night to convey his mixed emotions.

"Very happy to be in another semifinal with this club. The second in three years, and we want more. Happy for another assist and for the team’s performance. On the other hand, sad to be suspended for the first leg of the semifinal. We move forward together in pursuit of our goals. 🖤🤍3️⃣9️⃣ @NUFC"

Missing the first leg might just push the pair to perform even better in the second

It's going to be tough to navigate that first game without Bruno and Fabian, and also very disappointing given how well the pair linked up last night for Newcastle's third goal.

However, it may just be what they need to make them push on in the second leg and send the boys to Wembley.

I can't believe we're just two games away from another final. We love the Carabao Cup!
