While Newcastle United have one of the best strikers in the Premier League in their ranks, they have not relied on him for goals this season.

It's just as well, really, as Alexander Isak has been a very isolated figure up front as Newcastle have slowly got to grips with the new season.

Just as the Magpies started to up their game, Isak picked up an injury. During the game against Manchester City, Jacob Murphy put in some quality crosses that found absolutely nobody because we didn't have a striker on the pitch at the time.

Luckily for Newcastle, though, the midfield and even Fabian Schar from the back, are more than capable of finding the net and the goals have still come this season.

Newcastle have a problem with creativity from corners

One area that the goals have not been coming from, however, is set-pieces, particularly corners.

X account, The Other 14 has created a table showing the variation of corners from teams outside of the "Big Six" and on their table it shows that so far this season Newcastle have had 41 corners.

Correct me if I'm wrong here (and I don't believe I am), Newcastle have scored precisely zero goals from corners this season. In fact, I can't even remember when the last time we scored from a corner was.

The lack of set-piece goals is a problem

In the early days under Eddie Howe, Newcastle were quite creative from corners and set pieces, but that creativity is lost. There is no designated set-piece coach with Jason Tindall in charge of coming up with the routines.

Arsenal are building a title assault of the back of the strength of their set-pieces. It's hardly a tiny part of the game.

It's something that Eddie Howe needs to address sooner rather than later. Either by hiring a set-piece specialist or stopping Jason Tindall's pocket money until Newcastle score from a corner as an incentive.
