Newcastle United will have representatives around the table at tomorrow's Annual General Meeting of the Premier League club owners.

One of the big things on the agenda that we know about is Wolverhampton Wanderers' proposal to scrap VAR after they deemed it unfit for purpose.

Newcastle have had a few run-ins with the Video Assisted Referees this season in various competitions and while we agree that it is certainly a very flawed system, we're not sure scrapping it altogether would be a good move.

It would only take one incident to occur that VAR would have cleared up and there'd be calls to reinstate it. We've come too far to let it go now.

Wolves' proposal to scrap VAR is unlikely to pass tomorrow

Wolves' proposal is unlikely to get the 14 votes it needs to pass

In fact, that seems to be the thinking of most of the Premier League as the BBC claim that there's next to no chance of the motion getting the 14 votes it needs to pass.

That being said, even clubs who will be voting against the motion have said that there is definitely a need for a reform of how VAR works.

There's a chance that we could see VAR announcements made after successful trials at various FIFA events. Although how this changes anything other than how the verdict is delivered I'm not sure.

Manchester City's fight with the Premier League will be a hot topic

It's going to be interesting to see what, if anything, they come up with on this topic tomorrow and if we're likely to see any big changes going into the new season.

However, we expect the VAR talk may get lost in the fallout from the announcement this week that Manchester City are set to challenge the Premier League over Associated Party Transactions.

We'd love to be a fly on the wall in that meeting at Harrogate tomorrow. Sparks will be flying.
