There are some rumours that simply refuse to go away. It doesn't matter how many times we hear from people close to Newcastle United that they aren't looking at a particular player; they will keep being linked until the move becomes impossible.

That's exactly what keeps happening with former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. There are probably more stories out there mentioning Newcastle and Calvert-Lewin than there are mentioning him with Everton at this point.

Ever since Eddie Howe took over as manager at Newcastle, it seems Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been mentioned as a transfer target in every window.

Now that the former England international has left Everton and is without a club, it's even easier for journalists to link the player with Newcastle, especially given the Magpies' need for a striker.

TalkSPORT claims Newcastle have held talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Journalists with good connections inside Newcastle have reported that there is no interest in Calvert-Lewin, but the wider media can't let it go.

Case in point, TalkSPORT are now reporting that DCL has sacked his agent and has held talks with three Premier League clubs: Newcastle, Manchester United and Leeds United.

Man United have just signed Benjamin Sesko, so that seems unlikely. Newcastle have Yoane Wissa ready to come in, so there's no likelihood there either. Leeds United might be keen as they may want to add some Premier League experience up front, but having had Patrick Bamford taking up their treatment table for years, do they really want another full-time resident?

Even Sunderland pulled out of a move for DCL

Sunderland also gets a mention by TalkSPORT, but we imagine they opted against signing him and brought in Marc Guiu from Chelsea on loan instead.

DCL is apparently determined to stay in the Premier League but we don't see it being with Newcastle.

At least we hope not.
