Never has a fate seemed more predetermined than that of Sandro Tonali returning to Italy at some point in his career. The idea that the Newcastle United midfielder will retire without ever playing in Italy again is so unlikely that it's really a matter of when and not if he returns home.

Some AC Milan fans, and indeed corners of the Italian media would have you believe that it will be sooner rather than later, but Sandro Tonali and his representatives have moved to rubbish those claims several times already.

Almost two years on and Milan fans still beg the 24-year-old to come home on his social media, such is the deep connection between the player and the club.

Italian press have created many stories linking the Italy international with a return to Serie A, not just with AC Milan but Juventus too.

Sandro Tonali's agent has given hope to the Italians who want him home

We have now heard once again from one of Tonali's representatives who has given hope to those Italian fans who want to see Tonali back on home soil, but it won't be any time soon according to Riso’s GR Sports senior advisor Marianna Mecacci, who told SportItalia that as long as the Premier League remains an option, Tonali is likely to stay.

"He will return to Italy. When? It's hard to say. He is Italian footballing heritage, it's beautiful to see a man grow through difficulties. I started following him at Brescia.

"The operation that brought him to England was extraordinary. I realise it caused discontent. Tonali, son of Milan, faith that is there and will remain forever, is sold for a record sum. It was also a choice to try a new experience. As long as the opportunity of the Premier League exists, he will take advantage of it, but it is impossible to think that he will not return to Italian football."

Tonali is far from the finished article at Newcastle but we've seen his potential

We've seen glimpses of greatness from the Italian at Newcastle, but like many others at the club lately, he lacks the consistency that will make him truly great.

When he's on his game, though, there aren't many better at moving the ball quickly. He almost looks like he's thinking three steps ahead of the opposition and knows just how and when to release the ball.

Once he shakes that Jacob Murphy-esque trait of giving the ball away, we'll have one of the best midfielders in the world at our disposal.
