Sandro Tonali has become a sensation on Tyneside since his £55 million move from AC Milan to Newcastle United, but the talk of him pining for home has never ceased since he touched down in the UK.
AC Milan fans struggled to cope with Sandro Tonali's departure, which is understandable, but the Italian media have been just as bad, if not worse, constantly making up reports that Tonali is homesick and desperate to return to Italy.
It got to a point where he had to put out a statement via his agent, Beppe Riso, stating that he is happy at Newcastle and has no desire to leave.
Tonali feels he owes the club for standing by him through his gambling issues, which saw him banned from football for 10 months. Newcastle gave him all the support he needed and even kept him on full wages throughout.
Riso has been talking about Tonali's future again recently, and once again he has poured a hefty bucket of cold water on his client returning to Italy when speaking to la Repubblica.
“Sandro is one of the best midfielders in the world. At this point, his value is such that Italian clubs will hardly be able to afford him.
“I see his career developing away from Serie A.”
That obviously doesn't close the door on him leaving Newcastle to go elsewhere to continue to improve, but it might quiet down the talk from his home country.
We don't see Tonali leaving Newcastle any time soon. Especially if we can qualify for the Champions League this season and next, there'd be no reason for him to go.
Lifting a trophy this season may also convince him and all our other big stars that they are in the right place. Whether that shuts up our media constantly demanding our top players should play elsewhere is another story. mind.
