As expected, Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali has been included in the latest Italy squad.

Sandro Tonali made his return to the game on Wednesday night for Newcastle as they took on Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

The 24-year-old will be hoping to be included in the starting XI on Sunday for his first Premier League game in 10 months as Tottenham Hotspur come to visit.

Meanwhile, Tonali has been included in the latest Italy squad with Luciano Spalletti announcing his squad this evening.

Tonali's ban excluded him from club and international football

Tonali's ban was handed down by the Italian Football Federation as the majority of his betting rule breaches took place while he was still an AC Milan player.

We later found out that there were several breaches in his early days at Newcastle but the punishment handed to him by the FA ran concurrent with his initial ban so there was no extension.

His ban included club and international games and only allowed Tonali to take part in games played behind closed doors.

Italy clearly needed Sandro Tonali in the summer

Without Tonali in the squad Italy struggled at Euro 2024. Whether he would have been the difference maker we'll never know, but the fact that he has been instantly recalled to the nation side with just an hour of football under his belt speaks volumes.

It should now all feel like business as usual for the Newcastle midfielder and he can hopefully put all of this behind him and move on to become the player that we all know he can be.

Hopefully starting on Sunday when he marks his return to playing at St James' Park with a goal against Spurs. Please.
