If you've ever wondered just how much or indeed how little journalists know about what's actually going on behind closed doors at your football club you need look no further than today's headlines around Newcastle United.
As I sit here writing a story about how Newcastle will have no money to spend in January without selling someone first, another story comes out about a potential £25 million signing.
The Boot Room have named Newcastle alongside Aston Villa in the pursuit of Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez who is valued at £25 million.
20-year-old Ordonez is already a full Ecuador international and has Champions League experience with Club Brugge and now he has revealed that he has an eye on a move to the Premier League.
While the TBR article focuses mainly on Aston Villa's interest in the young defender, Newcastle get a mention as another club that recent watched Ordonez and claims a few more Premier League sides hold an interest in the youngster.
After all, Newcastle failed to land a central defender in the summer transfer window, and while priorities have since shifted, the need for a young defender to support, and eventually succeed Fabian Schar is still there.
At half the value of Marc Guehi who was Newcastle's priority in the summer, Ordonez could be a fantastic alternative.
The player himself recently hinted that he'd be open to a move to England in a recent interview ahead of a Champions League clash with Sporting CP.
“The Premier League, I would like that.
"About the interest from abroad? Honestly, I don’t know anything about that at the moment. I’m just trying to focus on Club Brugge and my team. My concentration remains 100 per cent here.
“[Helping my current employers] remains the most important thing.”
