Sometimes crazy transfer rumours pop up and by the time you're done laughing at them they've disappeared, never to be heard of again.

However, there's a transfer story doing the rounds about Newcastle United that is extremely far-fetched but just isn't going away.

Paul Mitchell knows he has some work to do to repair the damage after a horrific summer in the transfer window and he'll know that the best way to do that is to bring in a huge signing.

However, people are getting rather carried away, especially Caught Offside who claim that Arsenal and Newcastle are considering a £25 million bid for Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane.

Newcastle and Arsenal want Leroy Sane

Newcastle and Arsenal are considering moving up their plans to land Leroy

We have already covered rumours of Newcastle's interest in Sane but that was when it was suggested that they'd try and scoop him up on a free should he let his Bayern contract expire as expected.

Meanwhile, though, Bayern are negotiating with Sane and have offered him a new deal but within it, there is a pay cut, which reportedly hasn't gone down well with the world-class German star.

This has apparently prompted the Premier League pair to possibly move up their plans and try and land him for a cut-rate fee in January and are expected to go in with a £25 million offer to see how it plays out with Bayern.

Newcastle won't get anywhere near Sane's staggering wages

The absolutely enormous problem we can see here is the exact same one we mentioned last time - wages. Sane is on a whopping £325k-a-week at Bayern which is way beyond anything Newcastle are likely to pay.

Now, the fact that he's spitting his dummy out about Bayern trying to cut his pay doesn't exactly sound like he's open to joining the Magpies with their current salary cap, does it?

We'd be absolutely buzzing if there was some truth to the rumours and a belief that we could get the deal done, but right now it feels like we've got more chance of walking from one side of the River Tyne to the other without getting our feet wet (and without going over a bridge before you say owt).
