It wasn't too long ago that reports were swirling around that Manchester United were once again interested in a summer move for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

We doubt that the fee they have in mind nowadays for the Newcastle academy graduate would be anywhere near the £50 million they were rumoured to be willing to offer shortly after he burst onto the scene.

However, that rumour came and went pretty quickly and now a new, way more outrageous claim has surfaced.

Journalist Rudi Galetti has written for TeamTalk that Manchester United are looking to make a summer swoop for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes.

Manchester United want the real Bruno

Man United already look likely to beat Newcastle to Matheus Cunha, which is a move we can't get our head around, but now reporting that one of our top players would leave Newcastle for Old Trafford? Come on.

In fairness to Galetti, even he manages to talk himself out of the idea midway through his piece, admitting that Man United would be unlikely to be able to afford Bruno Guimaraes, not to mention Newcastle's reluctance to sell.

In truth, we don't even think they'd have much luck trying to get Adam Wharton away from Crystal Palace either.

Bruno leaving Newcastle for another Premier League club will not happen

If anyone doubts Bruno Guimaraes' commitment to Newcastle United, then they simply haven't been paying attention. The man loves this club almost as much as he loves his dad.

But let's be honest, the club wouldn't even let Manchester United get close enough to Bruno to test his loyalty anyway. He's our player, our captain and selling him to a rival would be out of the question.

Galetti goes on to say that Newcastle would be looking at Adam Wharton as a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes should he leave, which isn't a bad move, but we just don't see Bruno going anywhere this summer. Yes, he's brought silverware to Newcastle, so he's technically done what he set out to do, but it only seems to have spurred him on to bring more.
