17-year-old Schalke 04 midfielder Assan Ouedraogo is back on Newcastle's radar as the youngster is set to make a decision on his future.

Ouedraogo will likely have plenty of admirers by the time he makes a decision on his future at the end of the season after being highlighted on 2024's NXGN list of 50 wonderkids.

Newcastle were credited with an interest in the German in October and now Sky Sports Germany (via Sport Witness) have claimed that the Magpies retain an interest in the youngster.

However, they will face competition from AS Roma and Atalanta, who they claim are the current frontrunners for his signature.

Schalke could be set for a huge windfall if they sell Ouedraogo

Schalke are currently fighting for their Bundesliga 2 lives and Ouedraogo is committed to making sure the club remain in Germany's second-tier, but once the season ends, he has a choice to make.

Ouedraogo is still contracted to Schalke until 2027, but with so many clubs in Germany and abroad interested in his services, he must now decide whether or not to move on from the club that brought him through their academy.

Schalke could also be thinking how much they could be set to gain from selling one of world football's brightest prospects.

Newcastle are still on the hunt for future talent

Newcastle still have a strong focus on future talent and bringing in players like Ouedraogo who are young but also catching the eye of big clubs is what they're all about.

However, with his NXGN appearance, interest is going to be high and Newcastle may have their work cut out for them if they want to add the youngster to their ranks this summer.

He'd probably not be one to go straight into the first team, but he'd still be an exciting signing given his raw potential.
