The Athletic are reaching for stories now it seems after linking Newcastle United with a move for England midfielder Jordan Henderson.

After less than six months at Al-Ettifaq Jordan Henderson apparently wants to come home and have another go at the Premier League and with some fine mental gymnastics, The Athletic has deduced that Newcastle is realistically Henderson's only option.

The report claims that none of the big six would have a use for him, none of the mid-table teams are exciting enough for him and he wouldn't want to play for any side with the potential of facing relegation and that leaves us.

It's a no from us

And to that I say - enjoy Saudi Arabia, mate.

Still good enough for England - but what does that mean these days?

First off, let's start with the obvious - Jordan Henderson is about as Mackem as they come except for Jordan Pickford. Would it be worth signing him just to watch the implosion on Wearside? That would be literally the only positive.

Second, as The Athletic states, none of the greedy six want him, they don't feel he'd add anything to them, so why should we?

We need runners in our side and that ain't Henderson

Third, his legs have completely gone at this point. You can hear the collective groans when Matt Ritchie enters the pitch, or Dan Burn sets off in a foot race against literally anyone, in fact we'll include Sean Longstaff in that too. The last thing we need is another player on the books who couldn't catch COVID.

Henderson moved to Saudi Arabia to launch their new league and change their culture with his rainbow cape and he's given up after six months? Hmmmm were your intentions not genuine, Jordan? Was six months of £700k-a-week enough? Some reports claim he's actually on half that and well ... boohoo! Gutted for him.

This should be an absolute non-starter, the Mackem fewm is nowhere near worth it. Even The Athletic say as much by the end of their piece that it's a total no-go and Henderson made his bed and should now lie in it.
