After having Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak out more than the bathroom light this season it makes sense that Newcastle United would be looking at a new striker.
It seems that the entire season either one of our strikers has been absent at any one time, sometimes both. There have been very few games where we've had one on from the start with the other on the bench ready to change the game.
Therefore fans are adamant that a third striker needs to be brought in and quick. Newcastle have been looking at forwards, but as things stand no concrete approaches have been made.
Although, The Telegraph now says that the club have approached Bournemouth to enquire about the availability of Dominic Solanke.
The report claims that Newcastle made the enquiry which was dismissed off-hand by Bournemouth who do not want to see Solanke in January, which makes sense given his recent form.
Opinion is split in the office as to whether this is a good move for Newcastle with me being the dissenting voice - I think he's just hit a purple patch but overall he's way off the quality we need.
It has taken him five years at Bournemouth to get to anything resembling good again after Liverpool thought they'd nabbed a future superstar from Chelsea. It was also the transfer of Solanke that hung over Eddie Howe's head like a cloud, forking out £19million for him shortly before getting Bournemouth relegated and himself sacked.
It's obvious that Howe likes Solanke and can see something in him, but I am not disappointed that Bournemouth told us where to go.
With all due respect to Solanke, we can and should do better. Maybe not in January thanks to FFP but in the summer we'd be looking for better and if we picked up Solanke now he'd just be another thing weighing us down when it comes to FFP in the summer.
