In an ideal world, Newcastle United would look to bring in four or five new players this summer in various positions, but Financial Fair Play restrictions will make that extremely difficult, so the Magpies have had to prioritise.
As a result, Football Transfers have claimed that Newcastle are putting their search for a new striker on the back burner, but concede their hand could be forced if Callum Wilson were to leave.
Newcastle are already short on options up front, so the idea that Eddie Howe would abandon his search for a striker is a bit difficult to understand.
The report claims that Newcastle's priorities this summer will be a right winger and a right-sided centre-back.
While those positions would definitely be on our list too, we'd prioritise a striker over a right winger. We have options in that area that could see us through another season if needs be, but we can not go into another season with just two recognised strikers again.
With Callum Wilson's agents also potentially looking to find the 32-year-old a new club, that would leave Newcastle far too short in that department.
Miguel Almrion is also tipped to leave this summer which does bump right wing up the priority list, for sure, but for us, a striker has to be up there.
A long-term replacement for Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles is definitely a necessity too, especially with Lascelles set to miss so much of next season already. A short-term backup and long-term replacement would be the way to go.
The potential sales of Miggy and Wilson would go some way to unlocking more sorely needed headroom in terms of FFP but wingers and strikers don't come cheap, and as Newcastle would then need two strikers, it's going to be an expensive summer.
And that's all without mentioning the situation when it comes to goalkeepers too. Prepare yourselves for a summer full of wild and wacky transfer stories.
