Newcastle United are reportedly neck and neck with Arsenal and Bayern Munich in the race to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, reports suggest.

A report from Jacque Talbot of footballtransfers.com states that the 22-year-old has caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in Europe during his time at the Toffees.

The report also suggests that Newcastle, Arsenal and Bayern have done "the most legwork in sealing his signature."

With Everton's ongoing financial troubles, it is looking increasingly likely that they will have to sell key assets to generate funds.

Newcastle feel they hold the upper hand

Thanks to the signing of Anthony Gordon from Everton in January 2023, Newcastle are confident that their professional relationship will help them ease into negotiations and allow them to win the race for Onana's signature.

Arsenal and Bayern are both looking to improve their midfield and believe that Onana is the right person for their squads.

Onana joined Everton in 2022 from Lille for £32million. The Belgian international has made 69 appearances since joining and has become a regular presence in his national team.

£50m could be enough to sign Onana

According to reports from FootballInsider, the Toffee's will look for between £50-60m for Onana this summer.

It's a hefty price to pay but a worthy one considering his quality. The summer transfer market is looking like it will be an exciting one, especially if quality players like Onana are available.

Newcastle are looking to bolster their options in the midfield amid the returns of Sandro Tonali and Joelinton, the move for Onana could also be a backup option should Bruno Guimaraes leave the club this summer.
