It's being reported that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur will play a friendly at the end of the season in the land down under.

The fixture is set to be played in the week leading up to the FA Cup final. Now that Newcastle know they won't be participating in that particular event.

Eddie Howe and Ange Postecoglu's men will meet the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 22nd May according to The Chronicle.

There will be plenty of interest generated in the fixture with Ange Postecoglu returning home to Australia, so it's actually a smart move by Newcastle United to get involved.

This would be the perfect time to see Garang Kuol in a Newcastle shirt

Newcastle have their own Australian who could have a homecoming

Newcastle could even swing things their way by taking Australian international Garang Kuol as part of the squad. We're sure his time at FC Volendam will be up by then, it's not as if they're fighting for honours this season.

Coming off the back of the sponsorship news, a friendly like this makes perfect sense. It's a novel way to raise more funds outside of player sales and sponsorship deals.

It's not often that you see exhibition matches like this played out so close to the end of the season, but one more engagement before the summer break shouldn't do too much harm, hopefully.

One more fixture won't hurt ... right?

There will of course be a lot of players heading off to Germany for Euro 2024 soon after, so there wasn't much hope of our players getting much time to rest this summer anyway.

Anthony Gordon is one player who doesn't even know the meaning of the word rest. He played with the England U21s last summer then cut short his holiday to return to training to make sure he was ready for action this season. He's played in almost every game so far and is now in contention of being in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad. Will he be bothered about one extra game in Australia? Doubtful.

The club is expected to announce the details in the coming days with regards to travel etc. Hopefully, they'll also share if the game will be televised so we can watch it from the northern hemisphere.
