Chelsea could be about to throw their hat into the ring when it comes to potential buyers for Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson.

Callum Wilson was the subject of an approach by Atletico Madrid a few days ago but the Spanish side were only looking at a loan deal and were dismissed immediately by Newcastle.

Since then, however, it has been reported that the Magpies have stuck a £20million price-tag on the 31-year-old, indicating that they are willing to sell.

Chelsea are monitoring Callum Wilson

This, according to Football Transfers, has given Chelsea food for thought and the Blues are now considering tabling an £18million bid for the striker to test Newcastle's resolve.

The report even suggests that Chelsea could wait until the summer to make their move as they look to add someone with a proven track record of Premier League goals to their ranks.

Newcastle should only consider letting Wilson go this month if they have a replacement already lined up, or perhaps they could work out a deal with Chelsea that would see Armando Broja come our way.

Summer is going to be interesting

It would make much more sense to wait until the summer to sell Wilson, however, given that his sale would leave us with just Alexander Isak as a recognised striker and he's not exactly been the poster boy for fitness this campaign.

We always have the option of playing Anthony Gordon through the middle too, but he's been far too effective on the left to then reduce him to having to play out of position. And let's be honest, he's not a natural finisher like Wilson or Isak.

It is definitely starting to feel like big changes are in the offing this summer, we should expect to see a lot of players leave and plenty of new faces in. Hopefully, we've learned our lesson about squad depth this season too and we make sure we have plenty of cover for every position.
