Relief for Anthony Elanga as Sweden make huge statement following Newcastle United winger's outburst
It was widely reported this morning that Anthony Elanga had made his feelings very clear in the tunnel last night as Sweden fell to yet another defeat in the World Cup qualifiers.
The Newcastle United winger launched an X-rated tirade, insisting that the current system wasn't working and something had to change.
Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson was asked about Elanga's outburst after the game, but insisted he hadn't heard what was said.
We suggested this morning that Elanga may be lucky to be selected again as long as Tomasson is in charge. But thankfully, that's not something he needs to worry about.
Sweden have parted ways with Jon Dahl Tomasson
Sweden has relieved former Newcastle United striker Jon Dahl Tomasson of duties as head coach, issuing the following statement
"The decision taken by the Swedish Football Association is based on the fact that the men's national team has not delivered the results we hoped for. There is still a chance for a playoff in March and our responsibility is to ensure that we have the best possible conditions to be able to reach a World Cup final. In this regard, we believe that new leadership is required in the form of a new manager."
Winless in four games in their World Cup qualification quest sees Sweden sitting rock bottom of their group and in real danger of missing out on next year's competition.
With strikers Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak massively misfiring, it may be too little too late.
Karma: It'll get ya!
That's a lifeline for Anthony Elanga, who would most certainly have been in bother had Tomasson remained in charge.
We wonder how Alexander Isak feels about his decision to go on strike now. Had he remained fit, he could have contributed more to Sweden's cause, at they may not be in such a dire position.
Yoane Wissa received his karma, and now it looks like Isak is getting his.
