The Newcastle United news today has been dominated by the reality surrounding last night's breaking news that Callum Wilson is set to face another two months on the sidelines.

Craig Hope broke the news late on Wednesday night that Callum Wilson had suffered another hamstring injury which is set to keep him out of action for at least two more months.

Wilson had only just returned to the match-day squad after missing the start of the season with a back injury and then a hamstring injury which started in pre-season.

The 32-year-old has played less than 60 minutes over four appearances before breaking down again.

"How many months out this time, Callum?"

Gabby Agbonlahor is worried about Callum Wilson

Now Gabby Agbonlahor has expressed his concern for Wilson on TalkSPORT (h/t Sporstview) and we, for once, agree with the former Aston Villa man.

“If Isak gets injured, they have got no striker because Callum Wilson since 2020, has missed 100 games due to injury.

“He has missed 15 games this season due to a back injury, now two months out with a hamstring injury.

“Missed 28 games last season. So if you are looking at Callum Wilson now, he is 32. Not looking good for him.”

The stats behind Callum Wilson's availability are shocking

A big shoutout to Mark Farrington of the Ever More YouTube channel for digging up these stats around Callum Wilson. In his four and a half seasons at the club, Wilson has played more than 50% of available minutes in just two seasons: 20/21 - 56.93%, 22/23 - 54.2%.

The rest:
21/22 - 38.5%
23/24 - 30%
24/25 - 3.77%

That's a steady decline over the years and then a huge drop-off this season. We understand Wilson's desire to get back to full fitness and prove himself, but somebody should really be sitting him down and going through these stats and seriously discussing his next steps i.e. retirement.

I feel bad beating on about it, but it's probably the best for everyone involved. It's certainly the best for Newcastle United who have essentially been paying full-time wages for a part-time employee.
