Newcastle United have the unenviable task of facing Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals tomorrow at the Etihad Stadium. Kick-off is at 5:30pm live on BBC.

To be the best you've got to beat the best, and if Newcastle United want to win the FA Cup this season, they'll have to get past Manchester City tomorrow to do so.

In one respect it almost feels like the pressure is off. Nobody is expecting Newcastle to win, even the most ardent Newcastle fan would struggle to make a case for a Toon win, but if we do manage it, and then we go on to win the competition, nobody could ever say we took the easy route.

Not a single home tie along the way, we faced our bitter rivals followed by Premier League opposition and then were taken to penalties by a scrappy Championship side before coming up against the Champions. Then given who else is left in the competition, there are no easy games to follow.

Eddie Howe heaped praise on Pep Guardiola

Eddie Howe has spoken about the strength of the opposition and the other games against Man City this season where things didn't quite go our way (via The Chronicle).

"I've watched all their recent games which is always an interesting thing. They're an incredible football team. For me, they've got the best manager there has, arguably, ever been. But look at our games against them this year and how close they've been."

"We haven't been too far away [in recent matches vs City] and in those games we didn't get the luck we needed."

Howe doesn't feel this game is beyond is players

Obviously, it would be a bit strange if Eddie Howe came out in his press conference and said that he has no hope going into the game and that he expects us to get battered. In fact, we'd be surprised if he was even in the dugout for that game or any more after that.

However, it's still inspiring when a manager can come out and state their belief that we can get a result, that we can surprise people.

Yes, this season has been a slog and we'll be glad to see the back of it, but why can't we turn it on when it matters?

As Ciaran Kelly posted on X, Howe definitely believes we can progress tomorrow.

"It's not the draw we wanted - let's be honest - but once we had a chance to get our head around it and understand and reflect on it, we will have a right go and attack it and try and progress to the next round. We can do it. I've got no doubt."
