Newcastle United fans were surprised by a couple of decisions Eddie Howe made to his team selection on Sunday as the Magpies took on Wolves.

Sandro Tonali was kept on the bench and he was joined by Harvey Barnes who has been one of Newcastle's best players this season.

Fans' concerns proved justified when both of those players joined the game from the bench at half time and set about changing the tide of the match which had swung in Wolves' favour thanks to their 36th-minute goal.

Joe Willock was the other half time change and all three had a hand in changing the game, in fact, Willock grabbed an assist while Harvey Barnes hit the winning goal.

Mad that there's an Everton player on there eh?

Barnes earned a spot on WhoScored's Team of the Week with a score of 7.90

Barnes may only have got 45 minutes, but he once again showed why he's pushing for a regular spot in the starting line up and that Eddie Howe needs to find a way to get him and Anthony Gordon on the pitch together at the same time in a way that works for both players.

Thanks to his impressive runs and desire to take on the Wolves defence, and of course his stunning strike that bagged Newcastle the three points, Barnes earned himself a spot on the WhoScored? team of the week with a score of 7.90.

"Harvey Barnes (Newcastle) - 7.90

"Newcastle attacker Harvey Barnes made it goals in back-to-back games when he came from the bench to fire home what eventually turned out to be the winner for the visitors at Molineux on Sunday. Barnes, who entered the fray at half-time, managed a total of three shots, two key passes and two successful dribbles, in an effective substitute display."

Alan Shearer failed to select any Newcastle players for his Team of the Week

It's another strong message by the former Leicester City man to Eddie Howe that he's ready to step up, but, in Howe's defence, Barnes has often been most effective coming off the bench, so he really has some thinking to do.

Meanwhile, Alan Shearer's Premier League Team of the Week was completely Newcastle-free once again.

You're allowed to let your bias show a little bit, Alan, come on!
