We are Newcastle United and we aren't allowed to enjoy nice things for too long before the rug pull comes.

The Geordie nation is still on a high after lifting the Carabao Cup last week, with thousands heading to St James' Park today to get their first in-person glimpse of the trophy as Darren Eales and Bob Moncur will lift the cup on the hallowed turf as the lasses take on the Mackems.

The club has a big celebration planned for Saturday 29th March too, which will keep the buzz going even longer, not that it's showing any real signs of dying down.

However, while the celebrations continue, we've had the inevitable dose of reality take the shine off everything.

Gordon's England cameo on Friday ended in disaster

Anthony Gordon came off the bench for England on 74 minutes on Friday night and soon found himself on the deck requiring medical assistance.

At full-time, the winger headed straight down the tunnel while the rest of the team clapped the Wembley crowd.

After the match, Thomas Tuchel confirmed to the press that Gordon had picked up a hip injury that looked worrying.

We will have to wait to find out how long Anthony Gordon will be missing

Today brought confirmation that Gordon has left the England camp following his injury, which suggests it isn't something he's just going to run off quickly.

We'll have to wait to discover the extent of the injury and how long the layoff is likely to be.

Gordon was already set to miss Newcastle's next game against Brentford on 2nd April as he served the final game of his three-match suspension following his red card against Brighton in the FA Cup, but early indications would hint that he may well be missing more than just the Brentford game.
