Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has sent a warning to Newcastle United and any other clubs interested in poaching their star striker.

Earlier this year Newcastle were credited with an interest in Peterborough's super-fast young striker who graduated from the Posh academy.

Ricky Jade-Jones can run the 100 metres in 10.9 seconds making Anthony Gordon look slow, and now the 22-year-old is starting to add goals to his game for Peterborough making his initial £2 million value a thing of the past.

Sheffield United are said to be interested in Jade-Jones as well as Newcastle but Darragh MacAnthony has said that any interested clubs will have to put their hands deep in their pockets.

Peterborough are expecting Ricky Jade-Jones to be a wanted man

MacAnthony believes Jade-Jones will be a sought-after commodity in the January transfer window, telling the Peterborough Telegraph that his price has gone up since a failed move to an unnamed club.

"It’s lift-off time for Ricky. Ricky has added regular goals to his game and he will be a striker everyone wants to buy in January.

"A club agreed to buy him in the summer, but their takeover didn’t go through on time and now his price has gone up. Ricky could go for even more than Kwame [Poku - Posh are expecting a big payout as a tribunal decides their compensation when he leaves at the end of the season] as he’s been with us since he was seven.”

Will Osula's signing likely ended Newcastle's interest in Ricky Jade-Jones

Newcastle spent £15 million on a young striker in the summer who is yet to be trusted with any kind of big responsibility, instead being used as a late, time-wasting substitute or starting against lower-league opposition in the cup.

The fact that Newcastle still don't have a striker capable of pushing Alexander Isak for that first-team place means we don't see Jade-Jones being a priority for Newcastle, and in fact, Will Osula was probably the player we signed instead of Jade-Jones.

This summer, or even better, January, Newcastle need a first-team-ready striker to deputise Isak as Callum Wilson clearly isn't the one anymore.
