Watching Anthony Gordon go full tilt is a sight to behold, but Newcastle United are now leading the race for a youngster who makes Gordon look relatively pedestrian.

The Daily Star are reporting that Newcastle lead the way in the race for Peterborough United starlet Ricky-Jade Jones.

Jones has caught the eye of the Premier League after making 100 appearances for the Posh already at just 21 years old after making his debut aged 16.

He's been involved in all but two of Peterborough's League One games this season picking up eight goals and four assists.

Ricky-Jade Jones es muy rapido

The Star claims that the forward can run the 100 metres in 10.9 seconds, which isn't far off Usain Bolt's world record of 9.58 which has stood since 2009.

So the lad can catch pigeons, but can he actually play?

He's certainly doing the business in League One, but it's quite a jump to the Premier League, however, there have been plenty of players who skipped the Championship step and never looked out of place, and with Peterborough only asking for around £2million for his services, it's got to be a worth a punt, right?

Could Jones be seen as a long-term replacement for Miguel Almiron?

A right-footed forward who has been playing on the left wing or through the middle for Peterborough, he'd likely find it hard to bully Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes out of the way for a first-team spot were he to sign for Newcastle.

However, he is also comfortable playing on the right wing and with Miguel Almiron tipped to leave this summer, he could be seen as a long-term replacement for Miggy.

Newcastle also have the future of Yankuba Minteh to decide this summer. It would be interesting if Eddie Howe decided to go with two young wingers to cover the right side of the attack, supported by Jacob Murphy as the old head.

It's more likely that if Newcastle do move to sign Jones, he'd be loaned to a Championship side for a season, however.
