Newcastle United to pay homage to 1997 away kit next season as more kit details leaked

The end of the football season is boring for the most part. The absence of regular games leaves a huge void in the hearts of fans, but there are some things to look forward to between seasons.

For Newcastle United fans, one of the most important days on the calendar is kit release day. Indeed, it's such a big deal that fans will be on the lookout for hints or leaks all year round.

We've already covered a few of these, with it being heavily suggested that the new home kit is going to contain a shepherd's plaid pattern within the black stripes which hasn't really been met with much enthusiasm, but until we've seen the actual design, we'll reserve judgement.

Footy Headlines are keeping on top of things, and they have confirmed a couple of key details that fans should certainly like.

Newcastle are going blue, green and orange with the third kit plus an extra spicy detail

According to Footy Headlines, next season Adidas will release a long-sleeve version of all three kits, which many fans wanted this season.

After being bumped up to 'elite' status by the German sportswear giant, the third kid will also sport the classic Adidas trefoil logo, which we thought we were getting on this season's third kit.

The third kit itself is said to pay homage to the orange, green and blue kit from 1997, which was another divisive kit from my youth. However, it's not going to be a remake by any means, and it's likely to just use those colours rather than the off-centre stripe and sponsor design.

The away kit will once again be green

The away kit is once again expected to be a nod to our current majority owners and will be "Team Green" or, as it's more commonly known now, "Saudi Green".

As for what detail or secondary colour will be featured, it is still unknown, but white has been a popular partner with the green of late.

My wallet is already weeping at the prospect of the third kit. I don't know what it is about having that trefoil logo, but it just adds something to the kit, and as long as they don't completely drop the ball with the design, that'll be the kit I treat myself to. Unless that shepherd's plaid design actually ends up working on the home kit.
