Adidas absolutely nailed the brief this summer when they launched the trio of kits for Newcastle United as they took over duties from Castore.

Keeping things simple Adidas went with thick black and white stripes for the home kit, brought back the much-loved blue and maroon hoops for the away kit and a green and white away number which featured the 1980s club crest.

Each kit sold like hot cakes marking a triumphant return for the German sportswear manufacturer.

Newcastle are now set to become one of Adidas' 'elite' clubs next season meaning they will enjoy benefits that most other clubs will not receive.

Footy Headlines have mocked up an image of how they believe next season's shirt will look

Can Adidas replicate their success next season?

The big question is whether Adidas can follow up this year's success with some equally impressive kits next season.

If Footy Headlines are to believed then for me, it's a resounding no! Footy headlines have dug up some information on what the design may look like and have created a mock up and, well, it's going to be polarising to say the least.

The concept shows the black stripes sporting a shepherd's check pattern within them creating a very dominant white look overall.

Less is more

I'm not against bringing a bit of something new to the kit, adding something into the stripes to make it unique, but putting what looks like a Windows 98 wallpaper into the entirety of every black stripe would be a mistake.

Thankfully this is just a concept based on some information that has been gathered and the actual kit could be miles way from this, but the initial feelings on this one, for me personally, is a hard pass.

There's undoubtedly a way they could introduce the pattern without it taking over the whole shirt and I could maybe live with that, but this concept is far too full on.
