Newcastle United to be offered Darwin Nunez this summer as club look for striker depth

Liverpool certainly seem to be very keen to get rid of Darwin Nunez one way or another after it was reported recently they were going to offer the striker in a swap deal for Newcastle United's Alexander Isak.

While that alleged swap deal has been rubbished already, The Chronicle are reporting this morning that the Magpies are set to be one of several clubs who will be offered the £85 million flop this summer as the Anfield outfit look to take him off the books.

Nunez is likely to want to leave Liverpool too after being openly criticised by Arne Slot after (yet another) glaring miss in the game against Aston Villa recently.

Newcastle were initially interested in Darwin Nunez before he joined Liverpool, but given the Urugayan only ever seems to turn up to face Newcastle, we can't see Eddie Howe fighting his way to the front of the queue this summer.

Darwin Nunez numbers aren't actually as bad as his reputation suggests

Every striker has a howler or two in their back catalogue, but Nunez seems to have more bad misses than goals since joining the Premier League, and The Chronicle reports that Slot is going to ask £60 million for the 25-year-old ... good luck with that.

The forward has 39 goals and 22 assists to his name at Liverpool, coming from 132 seasons, which does suggest I'm perhaps being a bit too harsh on the lad, especially when you consider how many of those appearances were as a substitute or saw him hooked during the game.

Still, it's too hard to see past all of the times he's been absolutely woeful, and for £60 million we'd want someone we can actually rely on.

It probably doesn't help that Nunez has one of the most detestable faces in the Premier League. Am I possibly letting my personal dislike of Nunez cloud my judgement? Perhaps.

Should I have learned my lessons after Anthony Gordon? Definitely.

Do I want Darwin Nunez at Newcastle? Absolutely not!
