Paul Mitchell is gearing up to flash the cash this summer as Newcastle United look to build upon their Carabao Cup success.

The Magpies are still pushing for a Champions League spot after already qualifying for the Europa Conference League by lifting the League Cup. So given that Newcastle will play in Europe regardless of what happens in the remainder of the season, the need to flesh out the thin squad is greater than ever.

Should Eddie Howe's boys make it into Europe's top competition, it should make it easier to attract the calibre of player we need to build on this season's success.

That being said, Newcastle have had their eye on one top player since before this season got underway, and they remain very keen to land their man this summer after an excellent season in the Premier League.

Bryan Mbeumo is set to cost Newcastle £50m this summer

Newcastle are willing to pay Brentford's asking price for Bryan Mbeumo

We're of course talking about Bryan Mbeumo who has been cited as Newcastle's 'priority' signing for months now.

The Cameroon international has been in inspired form for Brentford this season, attracting attention from Arsenal and Manchester United, but Caught Offside claims it's Newcastle who are prepared to go all-out to sign the 25-year-old.

Brentford are reportedly set to demand £50 million for his services and Newcastle are believed to be willing to pay it.

Newcastle have been keen on Bryan Mbeumo for months

With 15 goals and six assists in the Premier League this season, it's little wonder he's being monitored by top clubs, but the Magpies will feel, after watching him for so long, that they don't want to miss out.

Liverpool and Tottenham are also lurking in the shadows which is why Newcastle are prepared to cough up the asking price in a bid to deter other clubs.

Newcastle are desperate for a right-winger and Mbeumo has been identified as the right man for the job for a while now. Fans are, for the most part, keen on the signing too, so fingers crossed there's some truth to these rumours as Mbeumo pinging in balls for Alexander Isak could be incredible next season.
