The draw for the FA Cup third round proper takes place on BBC Two at 7pm GMT Monday evening.

Newcastle will be in the pot for the draw alongside 19 other Premier League and all 24 Championship teams. The Magpies could draw teams as high as Manchester City or Liverpool and as low as National League side Tamworth.

Eddie Howe's side will be ball number 26 in tonight's draw with the ties set to be played on 11 January 2025.

How have Newcastle United performed in the FA Cup in recent years?

The Magpies looked threatening in the competition last year. A quarter-final defeat to Manchester City ended a positive run beating tough competition like Sunderland, Fulham and Aston Villa, all away from home.

Last years run snapped a three year skid of third round exits.

Newcastle were knocked out by Arsenal after extra-time in the 2020/21 season then managed by Steve Bruce.

In 2021/22, the Magpies fell to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to League One side Cambridge United before defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in the 2022/23 season.

Eddie Howe will be keen to replicate the cup form of last season rather than that of the three years prior.

Newcastle are looking for a first appearance in an FA Cup final since 1999 and a first win since 1955.
