There has been a lot said about Newcastle United's recruitment, or lack thereof lately with key areas of the pitch lacking any depth while others are seemingly overloaded.
Right wing is one area of Newcastle's squad that is embarrassingly weak compared to other positions, while on the opposite flank we have an embarrassment of riches.
Eddie Howe has been toying with using Anthony Gordon, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes on the right rather than relying on the likes of Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron.
There has been mixed success with the various experiments on the right, but the lack of consistency from any player has always lead to the conclusion that Gordon, Barnes and Joelinton all operate better on the left.
Acquiring a new right-winger of the standard needed to vastly improve the squad isn't likely to be cheap and Newcastle are really struggling to find the funds to make a move work thanks to the restrictions inflicted by Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Therefore, it makes sense for the Magpies to offload one of their left-sided players to help fund the move for a right-sided one.
A report in iNews has suggested that the man to make way could be Harvey Barnes. The £39 million former Leicester City man suffers from inconsistency and from being far more impactful coming off the bench than when he starts, and as such, could be seen as the player to make way.
Eddie Howe recently dismissed the notion that Barnes is a 'super-sub' but at the same time, there's clearly no place for him in the starting XI when Anthony Gordon is fit.
The report suggests that Newcastle may consider approaches for Barnes, but it doesn't sound like he's going to be placed on the transfer list.
Howe clearly has a lot of respect for Barnes and is desperate to find a place for him in the team, but while Barnes has had some brilliant moments for Newcastle and is still the Magpies' second-highest scorer this season, he could be a player the club could sell and not really miss as much as some other players who could bring in decent money.
In an ideal world, We'd love to keep Barnes, but we totally understand the thinking behind potentially letting him go if we get a good offer.
