The transfer rumour mill is spinning up as we coast towards the January window and Newcastle United are starting to be linked with players left, right, and bafflingly, centre.
Central midfield is one area of the squad that is pretty well stacked - you could argue the goalkeeping position is too, but let's be honest, we have the bodies but not the talent.
Despite the abundance of central midfielders, it appears that Newcastle are still keen to add more depth and according to Caught Offside, they still retain an interest in a player who was on their radar last summer.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha has been of interest to the Magpies for a while, they even scouted him in the summer of 2023 and then got a close-up look at the former Manchester City man when he turned out for Dortmund in the Champions League at St James' Park, even getting himself on the scoresheet.
The 24-year-old Nmecha was a rising star at Dortmund after joining from Man City and after switching allegiance from England to Germany has now broken into the German national side.
However, despite being highly regarded, it seems that Borussia Dortmund could be willing to sell if an offer of around £37 million were to come in.
This has alerted Newcastle and Manchester United who have both been keeping tabs on the talented midfielder.
In 19 outings in all competitions this season, Nmecha has contributed three goals and two assists with three of those goal contributions coming in the Champions League.
Felix Nmecha is undoubtedly a quality player, but unless we are looking at moving on one or two of our current midfield, we don't see him being a priority right now.
However, the idea of selling a top star is becoming much more of a likelihood lately, so perhaps Nmecha could be seen as a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes or Sandro Tonali as the club tries to raise funds to get around PSR.
