Newcastle United rumoured to rival Tottenham Hotspur in race for £66m striker this summer

While the Newcastle United headlines in the summer are once again likely to be dominated by talk of Alexander Isak's future, the Magpies have a lot of work to do finding players worthy of convincing him to stay.

There's no doubt that Newcastle have the ambition to break through that reinforced wall that keeps the 'big six' separate from the rest of the Premier League, but they need to start showing that ambition in terms of incoming transfers before the existing stars begin to get itchy feet.

If more players of a similar quality to that of Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are brought in, the more it shows their ambition and the more likely our current crop of stars are likely to stick around.

Of course, PSR is making that very difficult, but it's not impossible, so hopefully, Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe will find a way around it for the summer.

Newcastle are reportedly Spurs' biggest obstacle in the way of Dusan Vlahovic signing

A report by Give Me Sport has now claimed that Newcastle could be Tottenham Hotspur's biggest rival in the pursuit of Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic.

Newcastle were keen on Vlahovic before he moved to Juventus for £66 million in 2022 but have obviously been keeping an eye on the Serbian striker and could make a move in the summer, although it's expected that Tottenham are in pole position to land the 25-year-old.

Despite his good form at Juve, it's expected that The Old Lady would be willing to part with Vlahovic in the summer and is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Dusan Vlahovic could be available for £50m in the summer

Vlahovic and Juventus haven't been able to agree on a new deal, and as a result, his asking price is expected to be around the £50 million mark which should be tempting for Newcastle if they fail to secure the services of free agent Jonathan David after he leaves Lille.

Similarly to David, though, convincing Vlahovic to be second fiddle to Isak may be tricky, and this is likely to be the thing we keep bumping up against as we look to find adequate backup for the Swedish superstar.

It's good to see us being linked with top players again, though, whether they pan out or not.
