Newcastle United have rejected an opening bid from MLS side Charlotte FC for winger Miguel Almiron.
It was revealed yesterday that the MLS outlet was in talks with the Magpies over a potential move for the 30-year-old but opening discussions haven't changed the mindset of Toon boss Eddie Howe.
Howe still sees Almiron as an important player and reportedly told him that he is still very much part of the club's plans for the upcoming season.
Despite this, Charlotte still got in contact with Newcastle to see if they could tempt them into making a deal happen.
According to ChronicleLive's Lee Ryder, Charlotte have a representative in the UK trying to broker a deal with Newcastle.
Any agreement was not deemed close as of yesterday but former Aston Villa, Norwich and now current Charlotte boss Dean Smith is an admirer of the Paraguayan international.
The big challenge for Charlotte is personal terms for Almiron who has played MLS football in the past with Atlanta United.
The winger would need hefty personal terms to be persuaded to return to North America as well as a big transfer fee for the Magpies to keep them happy.
With two years left on his deal, Ryder also states that he is content with life on Tyneside with his young family so he won't be too keen on making such a big change.
In January, Almiron turned down a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab for a reported fee of £30million.
Just two weeks ago, Howe credited Almiron for his "unbelievable" spell at the Magpies, also saying he has been an "absolutely pivotal player".
