Newcastle United are potentially looking to recruit another full-back as backup for Lewis Hall.

The former Chelsea man is arguably one of Newcastle's best players, but the 21-year-old has had his injury setbacks of late, which has left Eddie Howe having to either use centre-back Dan Burn on the left or switch Tino Livramento to the opposite flank.

With no direct replacement for Hall, it's one area of the squad where Newcastle are particularly weak.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign a versatile defender from La Liga side Celta Vigo for just £8 million, who could potentially ease the burden on Hall.

Newcastle United have been offered Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza

Celta Vigo seems to be trying to find a new home for 26-year-old former Barcelona man, Oscar Mingueza, who can play all across the back line. With Newcastle having shown interest in the past, they have been approached about a potential move.

While Mingueza is primarily a centre-back, he can play as a full-back on either side too, although his preference would be a right-back.

Newcastle and several other clubs have been told that a bid of £8 million is all it would take to get the deal started, as his contract is due to expire in the summer.

Aston Villa already have their eye on Oscar Mingueza

Unai Emery is said to be keen on taking Mingeuza to Aston Villa, and to be honest, we don't see Newcastle taking the bait.

While another experienced defender with such wide versatility would be a useful addition to our squad, we expect that our focus is more narrow in that we are looking for an actual left-back.

We'll see how it goes, though, as £8 million could be a tempting price tag for the Toon, but if Unai Emery is keen, you'd imagine he'll be pushing harder than Newcastle.
