A right-winger is a huge priority signing for Newcastle United this summer with just Jacob Murphy as a recognised right-sided forward in the squad right now.

There are many players being looked at by Newcastle, and while some look like guaranteed first-team starters, the club are also looking at players who may not be ready to hit the ground running, but could certainly add quality and depth to a thin squad.

Whether or not the club pursues both avenues this summer remains to be seen, and will likely be dictated by PSR and how well the club does in the market filling the other vacancies - goalkeeper, right centre-back and striker.

Should Newcastle qualify for the Champions League this season, a huge shopping spree will be required to add much-needed depth to the squad to avoid a similar situation as the last time we were in Europe with players being asked to play too many games and ultimately breaking down with long-term injuries.

Newcastle and Liverpool are keen on Como's Assane Diao

A winger who Newcastle have now set their sights on looks like he will fall into the long-term category, but could potentially be useful in the next campaign too.

19-year-old Assane Diao only recently left Real Betis for Como for a club record €12 million (£10 million) in January, but he scored four goals in his first four games making other clubs immediately stand up and take note.

Now Caught Offside believes both Newcastle and Liverpool are eyeing the youngster for a summer move.

Assane Diao is being touted as a replacement for Mo Salah

Diao has represented Spain at U18, U19 and U21 level and has impressed in La Liga and now Serie A, and while Caught Offside are touting him as a potential replacement for Mo Salah should the Egyptian not sign a new deal at Liverpool, we doubt he's quite ready for that responsibility just yet.

However, the fact that he's even in that conversation suggests that there's a lot of faith in his talent.

It may cost a pretty penny to pry him away from Como in the summer, having only just joined, but he could be a name to keep an eye out for.
