Paul Mitchell is continuing his quest to find bright young talent to bring to Newcastle United after signing several highly-regarded teenagers already.

Most notably, Newcastle secured the services of Georgian wonderkid Vakhtang Salia who is already drawing comparisons to superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Now it it seems that the Magpies have turned their attentions to Spain where they have their sights on 18-year-old Malaga forward Antonio Cordero.

The 18-year-old will become a free agent in the summer and The Daily Mail believes that Newcastle are at the front of the queue.

Newcastle could beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to Antonio Cordero signing

Antonio Cordero helped Malaga to get promoted to La Liga 2 last season and has cemented his place in the first-team during this campaign where he's managed four goals and six assists in 24 appearances.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have both courted the youngster, but it's being reported that Newcastle made their move first and that significant progress has been made.

Signing one of Spain's brightest young talents under the noses of Real Madrid and Barcelona would be a huge statement by Newcastle if they are able to pull this off.

Newcastle United are scooping up talent from all over

The future of Newcastle United is looking very good right now with Salia and potentially Cordero in the ranks, along with Miodrag Pivas, Baran Yildiz, Kyle Fitzgerald, Trevan Sanusi and Alfie Harrison who have all been snapped up in recent months.

Perhaps not all of them will make it into the first-team, such is the way football is, but we've got ourselves into a good position to have some top talent progress through the ranks.

One or two may even step up next season given how thin Newcastle's squad is already, with more departures expected in the summer.
