Newcastle United learn eye-watering price they must pay to sign Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling this summer

Newcastle United have been keeping tabs on young Southampton midfielder Tyler Dibling since he scored a hat-trick against Newcastle's under-21s when he was just 16.

Tyler Dibling has since broken into the Southampton first-team after leaving to join Chelsea before returning to the Saints just three months later due to feeling homesick.

In his first season in the Premier League, Dibling has received plaudits from many commentators and pundits and is now being chased by some of the Premier League's top club.

Newcastle are joined by Tottenham and Manchester City in coveting the Southampton star.

Southampton are using Newcastle's trick of slapping a huge price tag on an in-demand asset to ward off interest

The Saints will face a battle to keep the youngster beyond this summer, especially if, as looks inevitable, they get relegated from the Premier League, but The Telegraph has reported that they will put up quite the fight.

It's being reported that Southampton have slapped a staggering £100 million price tag on the 19-year-old which, obviously, no club is going to get anywhere near. In fact, the report states their value is higher than the £100 million Man City paid for Jack Grealish.

An 18-year-old with one year of top-flight football under his belt, playing at the absolute bottom of the league all season is never going to bring in that much money, but given how Newcastle slapped a £150 million asking price on Alexander Isak in January just to ward off suitors, we get what Southampton are doing.

Of course, that does suggest that if Tyler Dibling is worth £100 million, then Alexander Isak's real value definitely won't start with a one.

Newcastle are desperate for a quality winger and Tyler Dibling would be one hell of an investment for the club, but unless Southampton calm themselves down and come up with a reasonable figure, we're not sure how a deal will get done.

Dibling may well want to stay at Southampton after failing once already to move away, but having experienced and flourished at the top level, he could well be looking for a new challenge and to remain in the Premier League. Southampton risk upsetting the lad if they block all bids.

It's going to be an interesting one to keep an eye on in the summer, but right now, we don't see Newcastle having much luck trying to bring the youngster all the way from Southampton to Tyneside if he got homesick just moving to London.
