Newcastle United could do with adding some firepower in the form of a centre-forward in the next couple of transfer windows.

Alexander Isak is in stunning form right now but we're aware of how prone the Swedish striker is to injury and if anything should happen to the 25-year-old, Newcastle could be in big trouble.

There has already been a spell where Anthony Gordon has had to act as a makeshift striker this season with Isak unavailable and back-up, Callum Wilson also injured.

Newcastle brought in Will Osula in the summer but he's being viewed as a project player and has been used very sparingly by Eddie Howe.

Matheus Cunha is a target for several top Premier League clubs

Newcastle are among several top clubs eyeing Matheus Cunha

It's highly likely that this will be Callum Wilson's last season at the club and a new striker will be required before the next campaign gets underway regardless of the development of Osula.

One player Newcastle reportedly have their eye on is Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha. The Boot Room has named Newcastle amongst several potential Premier League suitors, along with Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Newcastle were interested in Cunha before he joined Wolves and have been impressed with his form this season. Despite Wolves' struggles, Cunha has racked up 14 goal contributions already this season.

A summer move could be possible depending on how Wolves' season goes

However, The Boot Room does say that neither Cunha nor his representatives are pushing for an exit from Wolves with the Midlands side expected to open talks with the Brazilian over an extension.

However, if a top-six club comes knocking, both Wolves and Cunha may find it difficult to resist.

A January move seems very unlikely, but a summer switch could be on the cards, especially if Wolves slip back into a relegation fight.
