It's fixture release day in the Premier League, and Newcastle United, as well as the 19 other clubs in the top flight, have been handed their map for the upcoming season.

Obviously, the first thing that most Newcastle fans will be looking for this time around will be the Tyne-Wear derby dates, although we're pretty sure they will be subject to change for TV broadcast.

Before we get to those games, though, we'll take a look at how the season begins for Newcastle, and it's a mixed bag in the opening few games.

We start off with a tricky away tie against fellow 'Big Six' disruptors Aston Villa on 13th August, which will feel like a very early test of where the squad is.

In 2023, Newcastle kicked off their season against Aston Villa at St James' Park, winning 5-1 with Sandro Tonali scoring on his debut. Not a bad way to start the season at all. Hopefully, we can do something similar at Villa Park.

It's a huge test for Newcastle's first game at St James' Park

The first game at St James' Park will be against the champions, Liverpool, on 23rd August, making it a very tough start to the campaign before we take on newly-promoted Leeds United.

The Magpies will sign off their campaign on the road at Craven Cottage against Fulham.

We have to wait until mid-December for the first derby, which will be at the Stadium of Light. It is currently pencilled in for 13th December, but we expect it will be moved for a live TV broadcast.

Happy birthday to me! (Hopefully)

As a little treat for myself, the St James' Park derby is currently scheduled for 21st March, but again we expect that to be moved for TV coverage, and if it is pushed back a day, then it will fall on my birthday. So that'll be something to look forward to.

All of the fixtures are obviously subject to change as TV coverage and cup ties are likely to move things around.
