Newcastle United confirm Anthony Elanga's official squad number for new season - It's not 24
Newcastle United's summer signing, Anthony Elanga was recently pictured sporting the number 24 on his training gear while out in Austria.
As we reported earlier this week, the £55 million winger had donned the number 24 while training out in Austria with his new teammates, but we hope you heeded our warning not to go ahead and get that number printed on your new shirts as it was subject to change.
And change it has with Newcastle announcing this morning what number our latest Swedish addition will be wearing next season.
The number he has been allocated also affects another player who will be sporting a new digit on his back in the new campaign.
Lewis Hall has been given a new squad number
Anthony Elanga will be Newcastle United's new number 20, which means that the previous occupier, Lewis Hall, has also been given a new number.
Reflective of the huge progress he made last season, Hall has now been bumped up to number three, a number which is often assigned to first-choice full-backs.
Newcastle are still hunting for new players to come in this summer, so there's still plenty of potential for numbers to change before the season gets underway.
Anthony Elanga is happy to wear the Number 20
It sounds as though Anthony Elanga handpicked the number 20 as he spoke to NUFC media about his squad number assignment.
"I like number 20 and I really want to create history with that number. I'm really looking forward to wearing it.
"Pulling on a black and white shirt with the number 20 on my back I think is going to be amazing - whether it's long-sleeved or short-sleeved!
"It's going to be memorable for me, something I'll forever hold in my heart."
