It was a week ago today that stories around Sandro Tonali's future at Newcastle United started to pick up pace.

Kicking off with a report that Tonali had been offered to Arsenal on deadline day, those reports were quickly rubbished, but in the days following, Tonali's agent Giuseppe Riso did little to put an end to the rumours.

Every time Riso spoke, he always left the door open for a Tonali exit, which is all you need for a journalist to spin a narrative, and boy, have they.

Today, it has been reported that Manchester United have Sandro Tonali on a list of potential replacements for Casemiro.

Sandro is happy at Newcastle according to club insiders

Newcastle insist Sandro Tonali is happy and committed to Newcastle United

Meanwhile, iNews has reported that Newcastle are 'bewildered' by the sudden trend of reporting on Sandro Tonali leaving Newcastle United.

Their report suggests that the club have been given no indication from Tonali that he's unhappy, and insist that it has been quite the opposite with Tonali speaking openly about his commitment and happiness at the club.

And as they say, even if the Italian were to change his mind, they have the security of a long-term contract, so they could demand an astronomical fee for his services.

Sandro Tonali needs to show his commitment on the pitch

Reports have suggested that the Magpies have set a £100 million price tag for Tonali, but iNews insists that this is not the case and that he is very much 'not for sale'.

We all know by now that 'not for sale' is merely a tag, and like a player's contract, it means very little in the grand scheme of things. If a player wants to leave and a club wants to buy them, they will find a way.

For now, though, we should take at least some comfort that Tonali is reportedly committed to the club. Now we just need him to show it where it matters ... on the pitch.
