Sandro Tonali now being eyed by Manchester United as Premier League vultures begin to circle
Last week kicked off with reports that Arsenal were gearing up for a deadline day swoop to land Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali.
Thankfully, that all proved to be total rubbish, but that nonsense story has opened the floodgates and now Geordies are getting nervous that we could be in for another summer of disruption.
This is how the Alexander Isak saga started last yaer and that dragged on until the summer deadline day while eroding all the good feelings at Newcastle.
The Magpies have to have learned lessons from that horrible time, and it looks like we're going to find out exactly what they did learn as it's starting to feel as though Sandro Tonali could become the next big star to pull away from Tyneside.
Manchester United have Sandro Tonali at the top of their shopping list
We don't expect Arsenal to go away despite distancing themselves from the winter move, but now Manchester United have emerged as top contenders to take the Italian off our hands.
The Telegraph reports that Tonali is top of their wishlist to replace Casemiro in the summer, and given their recent revival, we wouldn't be surprised if Sandro was tempted.
Something isn't right with Sandro Tonali this season. Many fans have even accused him of not caring anymore, saying that he's just given up, and honestly, some of his performances certainly back up those claims.
Sandro Tonali may not be the only one wanting to leave this summer if things don't improve soon
Newcastle have Toanli contracted until 2029, so they are under no pressure to sell in that sense, but if Tonali starts agitating, it would be in everyone's best interests to just let him go. It's worth remembering though, that this is all speculation at this point; we don't know that Tonali even wants to leave.
We will make a decent profit on him with a price tag of £100 million mooted, but it's just a case of how damaging it would be to the project to lose another star who we should be building the team around leave in consecutive summers?
There's a long time to go between now and the summer, but if results don't improve for Newcastle, they could end the season with nothing, and that's going to make more than just Sandro get itchy feet.
