Alexander Isak opened his Premier League account on Sunday as Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 and the Sweden striker has carried his form into playing for his country.

Sweden faced Azerbaijan in the Nations League earlier this evening and Alexander Isak was on target for his country twice in the 3-1 victory.

Viktor Gyokeres, who was once linked with a move to Newcastle grabbed the third from the penalty spot to take it to 3-0 before Azerbaijan pulled one back two minutes later.

We have to say, it seems a bit harsh that Gyokeres would take the penalty given his partner was on a hat-trick.

Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres are an amazing partnership

Isak hasn't looked his usual self so far this season, but has managed a goal and an assist despite being isolated for most of every game as the Magpies have struggled to retain possession in each of the four games they've played.

Thankfully, when presented with an opportunity, Isak is always likely to take it and take it well as he did twice tonight.

Seeing how well Isak and Gyokeres linked up tonight makes us wish we'd actually tried to land the 26-year-old this year after we were linked with an interest back in March.

Alexander Isak has some catching up to do in the race for the Golden Boot

Gyokeres had an £84 million release clause in his contract at Sporting which served to put clubs off from making a move him.

At least we still have Isak, who has some catching up to do if he's going to chase down Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot this season.

The Nordic Cyborg already has seven goals in three games with Isak having just the one, but if anyone can catch him, Isak can. I mean, it'll probably take Haaland picking up an injury or two, but he can do it.
