Newcastle United will be looking to add to their striking options this summer regardless of the future of current striker Callum Wilson who has been tipped to leave St James' Park.

Callum Wilson has been one of the club's most lethal goalscorers in his time at Newcastle but his tenure has been blighted by injuries and it's now thought that the club could be looking to cash in on the 32-year-old while he still holds some value.

Regardless of whether there's any truth in that, there's no deny that the Magpies are short of options when it comes to strikers with just Wilson and Alexander Isak to choose from, both of whom have had their share of injury troubles.

The problem with strikers is they don't tend to come cheap, but Newcastle may have just been given some good news as one target's asking price has been revealed and is much lower than first thought.

Viktor Gyokeres celebrating for Sporting CP

Gyokeres' numbers this season are absolutely ridiculous

Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres has been on Newcastle's radar for a while with the Magpies missing out on signing the striker from Coventry last summer with the Sweden international choosing the move to Portugal instead.

The 25-year-old is having a phenomenal season at the Portuguese league leaders having scored 36 goals in 39 games in all competitions, along with providing 14 assists.

Those numbers back up the claims of his former Coventry manager, Mark Robins who hailed the striker having 'unbelievable ability' last season.

Newcastle and Arsenal are now chasing three Sporting players

Gyokoeres has a release clause of £85million at Sporting, but a recent report by Gazetta dello Sport has suggested he could be available for just £43million which will certainly grab Newcastle's attention as they look to add depth to the squad under the strain of financial regulations.

Newcastle will be hoping that Gyokeres' fellow countryman, Alexander Isak will have been putting in a good word about the club while on international duty this week.

The Magpies will face stiff competition for Gyokeres if they are to make a move this summer with Arsenal among the other clubs holding an interest. Both clubs are now looking at three Sporting players and could be set for a big summer showdown in the transfer market.
