There are a few players on Newcastle United's books still on ridiculous contracts handed out by Mike Ashley.

Newcastle have been struggling to move these players on because of the long-term contracts they were handed and the Premier League-level wages they were on despite being Championship-quality players.

Isaac Hayden is one such player. Eddie Howe informed Hayden not long after he came to the club that he didn't have a future at St James' Park, but two and a half years later and Hayden is still on the Newcastle payroll.

The Magpies have managed to find loan moves for Hayden during this time, but it wasn't until his most recent spell at QPR that he showed any real sign of finding himself a new club.

Hayden's loan at QPR recently came to an end

Hayden recently posted a touching goodbye message to QPR as he returned to Newcastle upon completion of his loan, and in the message he left the door open for a return.

Now, journalist Darren Witcoop has suggested that Hayden could be about to agree a settlement with Newcastle to exit his current contract which runs until 2026.

If that happens, it's believed that Hayden will once again link up with QPR on a free transfer this summer.

Hayden never lived up to his promising potential at Newcastle

It's likely to cost Newcastle a pretty penny to pull this off, but at a certain point the club just has to cut their losses. It is a prehistoric deal that should never have happened in the first place, but it was all down to the previous regime.

Hayden has been a decent servant for Newcastle and showed signs of greatness at points, but a bad spell with injuries halted his progression and he's never looked the same since.

QPR would be getting a good player in Hayden and he's already helped keep them in the Championship, next up is to help them kick on next season.
